About

The Online Commentary (Onlinekommentar) dares to be new. It is the first non-profit and free platform for Open Access commentaries in Switzerland. The online commentary was founded in spring 2021 by Daniel Brugger and is currently in the development phase (for the history of its creation: article on the Verfassungsblog in German; information for authors, editors and for members of the association "Onlinekommentar").

Diamond Open Access

The Online Commentary is an Open Access commentary. It meets the highest level of Open Access: Diamond Open Access. This means that the Online Commentary does not charge any fees to both authors or readers.

Open Access for all

As an Open Access commentary, the online commentary promotes the exchange of knowledge between lawyers. In addition, the Online Commentary removes existing barriers to legal knowledge. As a freely accessible digital legal commentary on the Internet, it provides for the first time simple, convenient and low-threshold access to high-quality and verified legal commentary to everyone, especially to people outside the "legal community". The Online Commentary thus promotes access to the law.

Public benefit and community project

The Online Commentary is a public service project. It is supported by a strong community ("community-driven"). The organization responsible for the Online Commentary is the non-profit association "Onlinekommentar", based in Spiegel near Berne. The association guarantees an independent, stable and sustainable basis for the Online Commentary. The statutes of the association expressly state that it does not pursue any commercial goals or profits. The editors, authors and board members of the association work on a voluntary basis.

As a community of like-minded people, we want to advance legal science by joining forces. The Online Commentary project is also intended to contribute to a more inclusive, diverse, modern, current, interactive and less hierarchical science and practice of law.
